Phoebe Bridgers
Phoebe Lucille Bridgers, born on August 17, 1994, is an American singer-songwriter hailing from Los Angeles, California. She penned her first song at the age of 11, spent her teenage years at open mic nights, and played music at farmers markets around Los Angeles as a teenager.
At 20, she made her entry into the music scene with a three-song EP titled Killer. Following the EP's release, Bridgers began receiving numerous tour invitations, spending the next two years touring with artists like Julien Baker and Violent Femmes.
After these tours, Bridgers returned to the studio to complete her full-length debut, Stranger in the Alps, which came out in September 2017. In interviews, she has cited classic singer-songwriters like Elliott Smith and Leonard Cohen, along with more contemporary musicians, as her primary sources of inspiration.
In addition to her solo projects, Bridgers is part of the band boygenius, collaborating with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and is also part of Better Oblivion Community Center, a musical project with Conor Oberst. These artists have appeared in Bridgers' solo projects; for instance, Oberst contributed guest vocals to her song “Would You Rather.”
Her second album, Punisher, was released in summer 2020 and received widespread critical acclaim from Pitchfork and other esteemed media outlets. It also earned her three nominations at the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album. The album explores themes such as depression, isolation, and coming-of-age.
