The Shapeshifters
“Lola’s Theme” took The Shapeshifters to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in July 2004, turning the duo’s debut single into one of the defining UK house hits of that summer. The project was formed by British producer Simon Marlin and Swedish producer Max Reich, who is from Gothenburg, and developed a sound rooted in disco house, funky house and vocal-led club music.
Marlin and Reich initially produced and toured together as The Shapeshifters. Before their move to Defected Records in 2008, the duo were signed to Positiva. In the United States, their physical releases used the name Shape:UK because of a trademark conflict with the Los Angeles hip-hop group the Shape Shifters.
Reich left the project in 2017. Since then, Marlin has continued to record and perform under The Shapeshifters name as a solo act, carrying the project forward from its London base.
