Rihanna
A true pop icon, Robyn "Rihanna" Fenty is a singer, actress, and businesswoman from Saint Michael, Barbados. She was initially discovered by American record producer Evan Rogers in 2003 and subsequently signed a contract with Def Jam Recordings in 2004, after auditioning for its then-president, JAY-Z.
By 2005, she released her debut album Music of the Sun, followed by A Girl Like Me in 2006. Both albums were commercially successful, but it wasn’t until her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, in 2007 that Rihanna became an international pop star. This album, featuring the hit “Umbrella,” earned her seven Grammy nominations.
In 2009, Rihanna released her fourth studio album, Rated R, which showcased a darker tone compared to her previous work. Her fifth studio album, Loud, came out in 2010 and signaled her return to dance-pop music. That summer, she featured on Eminem's hit “Love the Way You Lie,” one of her most notable collaborations.
Rihanna maintained her album momentum in 2011 with her sixth studio album, Talk That Talk. Its lead single, “We Found Love,” became her biggest hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks. Her seventh studio album, Unapologetic, followed in 2012.
In 2013, Rihanna took a brief hiatus from recording music but featured on songs like Wale’s “Bad (Remix)” and Eminem’s “The Monster.” In 2014, Rihanna moved from Def Jam Recordings to JAY-Z's Roc Nation.
In 2015, Rihanna resumed creating solo music with singles like “FourFiveSeconds,” “Bitch Better Have My Money,” and “American Oxygen.” Her eighth studio album, ANTI, was released the following year in 2016.
By 2017, Rihanna featured on several hit tracks such as Kendrick Lamar’s “LOYALTY.” and DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts.” That same year, she announced that work had begun on her ninth studio album, although its release date remains unconfirmed.
Rihanna's dedication has made her one of the most awarded artists in history, with a total of 214 awards, including nine Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, thirteen American Music Awards, and seven MTV Video Music Awards.
Beyond music, Rihanna has ventured into acting, appearing in major films like Ocean’s 8, This Is the End, Battleship, and the animated film Home. She also launched the successful cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty in 2017 and was appointed as an Ambassador of Barbados in 2018.
