MARINA

Marina Lambrini Diamandis, known as Marina and formerly as Marina and the Diamonds, reached number one on the UK album chart with her 2012 concept album Electra Heart. A Welsh singer, songwriter, poet and record producer, she was born in Brynmawr on 10 October 1985 and raised near Abergavenny. She later moved to London to pursue music professionally despite having little formal musical experience.

Diamandis came to wider attention in 2009 after placing second in the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll. Her debut album, The Family Jewels, arrived in 2010, combining indie pop and new wave. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number five, earned a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry, and included the single “Hollywood,” which peaked at number 12 on the UK singles chart.

Her follow-up, Electra Heart, was built around a character of the same name and moved toward electropop and dance-pop. The record became her first UK number one and was certified gold in both the UK and the United States. “Primadonna” and “How to Be a Heartbreaker” were among its successful singles. In 2015, she released Froot, a Europop-inspired third album that became her third UK top 10 album and her first top 10 entry on the US Billboard 200.

In 2018, Diamandis featured on Clean Bandit's “Baby,” which reached the UK top 20. She subsequently began releasing music under the mononym Marina. Her fourth studio album, Love + Fear, was released in 2019 and reached number five in the UK. Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, her fifth studio album, followed in 2021, debuting at number 17 on the UK chart; a deluxe edition was released in 2022.

Her sixth studio album, Princess of Power, was released on 6 June 2025, preceded by the singles “Butterfly,” “Cupid's Girl” and “Cuntissimo.”
