Galantis
Galantis is the electronic dance music alias of renowned Swedish record producer Bloodshy, known for being part of the band Miike Snow and for his work with artists like Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Cathy Dennis, and Jennifer Lopez. Previously, this alias was recognized as a duo consisting of Bloodshy and fellow DJ and record producer Style of Eye from 2014 to 2020.
Bloodshy and Style of Eye formed Galantis after Style of Eye remixed some of Miike Snow’s work and gained recognition from producing Icona Pop’s “I Love It”. The duo signed a contract with Big Beat Records, releasing a self-titled EP. The single “You” had reportedly been rejected by Britney Spears, prompting the duo to keep it. They also created a mascot, the “seafox”, designed by Mat Maitland. The debut album Pharmacy, featuring hits like “Runaway (U & I)” and “Peanut Butter Jelly”, was a major success and included vocals from songwriters such as Cathy Dennis, Vincent Pontare, and Jennifer Decilveo. In 2015, Style of Eye expressed a desire to step back from creative control and remain involved only as a live member.
Consequently, Galantis' sound evolved from electro house to electro pop, solidified with the release of their second album The Aviary in 2017. The album included vocals from prominent songwriters like BullySongs, Bonnie McKee, Wrabel, and Ross Golan. According to the record label, most of the writing for the album was done by Bloodshy and Style of Eye together, with Bloodshy handling production, to avoid breaching their recording contract.
In 2017 and 2018, Galantis experienced disputes with their label over credited achievements and the creative direction of their third album. This led to several non-album singles being released, primarily written by Bloodshy and Style of Eye. The disagreements were resolved in 2019, before the release of “Bones”—the first Galantis track without Style of Eye's writing input. Bloodshy then began working with new collaborators, including Bali Bandits and David Saint Fleur, along with regular associate Henrik Jonback, in contrast to the first two albums largely involving Svidden and Jonback. The album Church was released in 2020.
Church marked the end of Galantis' three-album contract with Big Beat and the official departure of Style of Eye. Bloodshy continued Galantis as a solo act, bringing in producers like Mr. Whistler of Bali Bandits, Y3llo Koala, and Saint Fleur. From 2020 to 2023, Bloodshy released several non-album collaborations with British artists, including Little Mix, Becky Hill, Mabel, Craig David, and MNEK. In June 2023, Bloodshy announced Galantis' official return as a solo act with the single “Bang Bang! (My Neurodivergent Anthem)”.
