ScHoolboy Q

ScHoolboy Q broke through to the top of the Billboard 200 with Oxymoron in 2014, turning a run of locally successful mixtapes and independent albums into a major-label debut. Born Quincy Matthew Hanley on October 26, 1986, he began recording in 2007 and first released the mixtapes ScHoolboy Turned Hustla in 2008 and Gangsta & Soul in 2009. His stage name is stylized ScHoolboy Q.

After signing with Carson-based Top Dawg Entertainment, Hanley released his debut studio album, Setbacks, in 2011, followed by Habits & Contradictions in 2012. Both digital-exclusive releases drew positive critical response and reached the US Billboard 200. He later signed with Interscope Records for Oxymoron, which was met with critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Oxymoron produced two of his biggest singles: “Collard Greens,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, and “Studio,” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid. “Collard Greens” became his first Billboard Hot 100 entry and earned quadruple-platinum certification from the RIAA, while “Studio” was certified triple platinum and reached the Hot 100’s top 40. He also appeared as a guest on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ 2013 single “White Walls” and Tinashe’s 2014 single “2 On.”

His later albums include Blank Face LP (2016) and Crash Talk (2019), both of which placed in the top three of the Billboard 200 and received continued critical praise. His sixth album, Blue Lips, arrived in 2024, peaked at number 13, and received universal acclaim. In July 2026, he announced a forthcoming seventh album, Thank Que, planned with 12 tracks. Hanley was also a member of the California hip-hop group Black Hippy alongside Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar, and has received five Grammy Award nominations.
