
Photek
Rupert Parkes, known as Photek, is a British electronic music DJ, record producer, and composer whose work has extended from club music into film, television, and video-game scoring. Born on 6 September 1971, he was raised in St Albans, England, and is based in Los Angeles.
Working across jungle, drum and bass, IDM, trip hop, downtempo, breakbeat, and atmospheric drum and bass, Parkes has also used a number of aliases, including Aquarius, Special Forces, Studio Pressure, System X, and Phaze 1. His production work has been accompanied by an expanding career in screen composition. He contributed music to productions including the 1998 film Blade, and scored the television series Gang Related for director Allen Hughes. He also composed the television score for How to Get Away with Murder.
Photek received three consecutive Grammy Award nominations for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. The nominations recognized his remix of Daft Punk’s “End of Line,” from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, in 2012; Moby’s “Lie Down in Darkness” in 2013; and “One Love/People Get Ready” in 2014.
