Mood II Swing
Mood II Swing were the New York City production partnership of DJ-producer John Ciafone and musician and songwriter Lem Springsteen. Formed as an all-media music production company, the pair initially intended to create music for multimedia platforms, but built their early career through remix work between 1993 and 1997.
Their breakthrough came in 1997, when Ciafone and Springsteen co-wrote and produced Ultra Naté's global anthem “Free.” The record brought the duo wider recognition and led to a publishing deal with EMI UK Music Publishing. Mood II Swing became closely associated with soulful house, while Ciafone's tougher house dubs formed another important side of the partnership's output.
Working under names including Mood 2 Swing, Urbanized and Wall of Sound, Ciafone and Springsteen also released and remixed music connected with labels such as Strictly Rhythm, King Street Sounds and Eightball Records. Their work spans house music's deep, classic and soulful strains, with a catalog that also intersects with ballroom and vogue-oriented dance music.
After working without management, the two producers decided to disband in 2022 and pursue individual interests.
