Mr. V
Victor Font, known as Mr. V, brought Lower East Side Manhattan experience into house music through a style shaped by both hip hop and the dancefloor. A Nuyorican artist born in 1974, he grew up in Manhattan and came to the attention of Louie Vega during the 1990s, working with Vega for a period that strongly informed his musical direction.
As a DJ, producer and vocalist, Mr. V has worked across house's soulful, deep and funky corners while retaining the vocal presence and rhythmic sensibility of hip hop. His debut album, Welcome Home, arrived through Defected Records in 2006. HX Magazine described it as “a study in the melting pot of Manhattan sounds,” while The Skinny awarded the record three stars. One of its tracks, “Da Bump,” reached number 2 on the UK Dance Chart in May 2007.
His later collaborations include “The Long Run” with Steve Bug, released in 2013 and reviewed 8/10 by Mixmag. In 2016, he joined Roger Sanchez for the 6 AM EP, which Mixmag called “big club ammo of the highest order.”
