Mr. V

Victor Font, known as Mr. V, brought the sounds of Manhattan's Lower East Side into house music through work as a DJ, producer and vocalist. A Nuyorican artist born in 1974, he grew up in the neighborhood and developed a style that crosses hip hop and house. In the 1990s, he came to the attention of Louie Vega and worked with him for a period that significantly shaped his musical direction.

Mr. V released his debut album, Welcome Home, through Defected Records in 2006. The Skinny gave the record a three-star review, while HX Magazine described it as a “study in the melting pot of Manhattan sounds.” Its track “Da Bump” reached number 2 on the UK Dance Chart in May 2007.

Alongside his solo work, Mr. V co-founded Sole Channel Music with Alix Alvarez. His productions have moved through deep, soulful and funky strains of house, with a vocal presence that connects club music to hip hop-informed New York style. In 2013, his collaboration with Steve Bug, “The Long Run,” received an 8/10 review from Mixmag. He later teamed with Roger Sanchez for the 2016 6 AM EP, which Mixmag called “big club ammo of the highest order.”
