Mitski

Mitski Miyawaki, born Mitsuki Laycock on September 27, 1990, is an American musician and singer-songwriter whose work has moved between intimate songwriting, indie rock, pop, and more theatrical arrangements. She began releasing music while studying composition at Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music, self-releasing her first two albums, Lush (2012) and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013).

Her third studio album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, arrived in 2014 through Double Double Whammy. Mitski signed with Dead Oceans the following year, beginning a run that included Puberty 2 (2016), Be the Cowboy (2018), and Laurel Hell (2022). Laurel Hell reached the top ten in several countries, while The Guardian named her the best young songwriter in the US that year.

In 2022, Mitski co-composed “This Is a Life” with Son Lux for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. The song received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Her seventh studio album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, followed in 2023. Its single “My Love Mine All Mine” became her first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Mitski released her eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, on February 27, 2026.
