Matt Lange

Matt Lange is an American DJ, producer and composer whose work has moved from progressive and deep house into techno, with modular synthesis and isorhythmic structures central to his productions. Based in Los Angeles and raised in Manhattan, he began playing piano at four, sang in a boys’ choir from six to 13, then took up guitar and joined a hardcore and metal band. At 15, he started producing music while making demos for that band, an experience that shifted his focus toward studio work.

Lange studied music production at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Early inspirations included Hybrid and Telefon Tel Aviv, while his later work drew on a wide range of electronic approaches, from progressive trance and house to minimal techno, tech house and IDM. He has also released music under the names Altered Tensions and Pconvolve.

Before concentrating on his own releases, Lange was enlisted by BT to co-produce These Hopeful Machines, an album described as Grammy Award-nominated. He also produced Glenn Morrison’s 2013 single “Goodbye,” which was certified platinum in Canada and sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. His remix work has included The M Machine’s “Shadow in the Rose Garden” for OWSLA and Usher’s “Numb” for RCA.

In 2011, Lange founded the label Isorhythm as a home for his own music. His 2014 Staccato EP reached No. 2 among Progressive House releases on Beatport. He performed at events including EDC Las Vegas and TomorrowWorld, and VIBE.com named him its No. 1 DJ to watch in 2014. Deadmau5 later selected Lange’s “Scorched Earth Policy” for the February 2015 compilation We Are Friends: Volume 3, followed by “Nice Shades, Wesley” on We Are Friends: Volume 4 that June.

Lange released his debut studio album, Ephemera, through Mau5trap in 2015. The record brought together club-focused tracks and more downtempo, vocal-led material, much of it built from guitar, piano or modular synthesizer rather than outside samples. His second studio album, Isolated, followed in 2020. Alongside Isorhythm, his releases have also appeared through Killphonic.
