Icarus
Icarus are a British electronic band from London, formed in 1997 by cousins Ollie Bown and Sam Britton. Working as a duo, they have been associated with drum and bass while drawing on experimental jazz and richer instrumental textures than are typical of the genre. Their sound has attracted comment from fellow musicians; Kieran Hebden described their music as “really beautiful and also quite kind of evil.”
Hebden brought Icarus to a wider audience by selecting their track “Benevolent Incubator” for his Late Night Tales compilation. The connection was not one-sided: Icarus also remixed Hebden’s Four Tet track “My Angel Rocks Back and Forth,” placing their production style in direct dialogue with his work.
Alongside their own recordings, Icarus have built a profile through remixes that span a range of electronic and experimental artists. Their remix credits include work for Murcof, Lunz, The Creatures, Spartak, and Eclectic Method Featuring Chuck D, reflecting an approach that moves between club-rooted formats and more exploratory material.
