David Bissett's first musical obsession was Limp Bizkit, headbanging in his dad's car as a kid in Bewdley, a small town in Worcestershire. The future Cloonee absorbed nu-metal, then pivoted hard into dubstep as a teenager, buying UKF compilations and catching bass music shows in nearby Birmingham. Seeing Chris Lorenzo's Cause & Affect project bridge bass and house flipped a switch. By his early twenties, Bissett was producing tech house tracks in Sheffield, where he'd gone to university, and hunting for a way into a crowded UK scene.

His stage name comes from Cloonee Lough, a system of freshwater lakes in County Kerry, Ireland, where his grandfather took him fly fishing every school holiday. It is a tribute to the person Bissett says he looks up to most.

The debut arrived in 2017: the Estes EP on Elrow Music, which cracked the Beatport tech house top 10. Early plays from Michael Bibi and PAWSA followed, then a signing with Solid Grooves, where "The Ciggie" (2018) became one of his highest-streaming tracks. In 2019, "Be Good To Me" on Big Beat hit number one on Beatport's tech house chart, and Bissett finished the year as the platform's eighth best-selling tech house artist.

When clubs reopened after Covid, Bissett's new LA-based management team connected him with Chris Lake, who was already dropping Cloonee tracks in his sets. A visa was secured, and Bissett flew out for shows in San Diego and Brooklyn before relocating to Los Angeles full-time. The move opened him up to new sounds and a far bigger touring circuit. In September 2024, he bought his first home there on his 29th birthday.

In 2022 he launched Hellbent Records, a label and brand built around darker, groove-heavy club tools and metal-influenced visual identity. Its roster now includes producers from Brazil, Italy, Mexico, and the US, showcased through the recurring Welcome to Hell compilation series. Off the label, he has released on Chris Lake's Black Book Records, collaborating with Lake on "Nightmares" (2022) and tracks like "What You Want" and "Let's Rave."

His live profile has scaled accordingly. Two sets at Coachella 2024 (Sahara Stage solo, Do Lab with Chris Lorenzo), a headline slot at Brooklyn Mirage, sunrise sessions at Club Space in Miami, and runs through Kappa Futur Festival, Ushuaia, and Hi Ibiza. Tracks like "Mi Amor," "Sippin' Yak," and "Stephanie" have tens of millions of streams, with a 16,000-capacity LA show proving the demand extends well beyond the internet. In 2025, he organized a fundraiser for Para Los Ninos, a Los Angeles children's charity, raising $30,000 during a period of heightened ICE enforcement. DJ Mag put him on the cover of Issue 664.
