Bruno Mars

Before becoming Bruno Mars, Peter Gene Hernandez made a name for himself in Honolulu as a child Elvis Presley impersonator. Born on October 8, 1985, he was raised in the city before moving to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue music professionally. As Mars, he developed a three-octave tenor, a performance style steeped in retro showmanship, and a pop sound that draws on R&B, funk, soul, rock and hip-hop. His live work is backed by the Hooligans.

Mars first built industry credentials as a songwriter and as co-founder of the Smeezingtons production team. His profile rose sharply after his appearance on B.o.B.'s 2009 US number-one single “Nothin' on You.” He followed it with his 2010 debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which produced “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song.” Its successor, 2012's Unorthodox Jukebox, yielded “Locked Out of Heaven,” “When I Was Your Man” and “Treasure.”

His third studio album, 24K Magic, arrived in 2016 and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The record produced the singles “24K Magic,” “That's What I Like” and “Finesse.” Mars also featured on Mark Ronson's 2014 single “Uptown Funk,” which became Billboard's best-performing song of the 2010s. His 2017-2018 24K Magic World Tour ranks among the highest-grossing tours in history.

In 2021, Mars joined Anderson .Paak in the superduo Silk Sonic. Their album An Evening with Silk Sonic included the US number-one single “Leave the Door Open.” In 2024, he released two record-breaking number-one duets, “Die with a Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT.” with Rosé. Mars returned to solo albums in 2026 with The Romantic, his first in ten years. Its singles include “I Just Might,” his first song to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Risk It All.”

Mars has sold more than 150 million records worldwide and has earned ten Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, as well as the most weeks at number one on the Billboard Global 200. His awards include 16 Grammy Awards, 17 American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, five Brit Awards, seven MTV Video Music Awards and 14 Soul Train Awards. Time included him on its 2011 list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
