Altın Gün is a Dutch-Turkish psychedelic rock band from Amsterdam whose music draws on Anatolian rock and Turkish folk repertory. The group’s sound has been described as psychedelic, built around a “dirty blend of funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue organs,” and it is known for reworking traditional material in a contemporary band format.

The band was founded in 2016 by bassist Jasper Verhulst after he posted a Facebook advertisement seeking Turkish musicians. From the outset, Altın Gün was conceived as a cross-cultural project rooted in Turkish songs and styles but developed within Amsterdam’s music scene. The lineup includes vocalist Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız, who is of Turkish origin, alongside four Dutch members, reflecting the band’s Dutch-Turkish identity in both personnel and repertoire.

Altın Gün’s approach centers on psychedelic rock covers of Turkish folk music, pairing familiar melodies with driving rhythm sections and prominent electric instrumentation. Funk-inflected grooves and wah-wah guitar textures sit alongside analogue organ sounds, giving the arrangements a retro timbre while remaining firmly in a rock-band setting. The result is music that connects Anatolian rock’s historical blend of Western rock and Turkish tradition with a modern, Amsterdam-based ensemble.

Altın Gün has released music through ATO and ATO Records, labels associated with its recorded output. While the band is often discussed within the overlapping contexts of Turkish psychedelic music and Dutch indie audiences, its core identity rests on the reinterpretation of Turkish folk sources through psychedelic rock instrumentation and performance.
