Squid
Squid emerged from Brighton's Windmill scene with a restless, rhythm-led approach to rock that places drummer Ollie Judge at the microphone as well as behind the kit. Formed in 2016, the English five-piece later based itself in Bristol. Its lineup also includes Louis Borlase and Anton Pearson on guitar and vocals, Laurie Nankivell on bass and brass, and Arthur Leadbetter on keyboards.
The band released its debut EP, LINO, independently in 2017, then followed it with standalone singles and the 2019 EP Town Centre through Speedy Wunderground. Squid's music draws together post-punk, art rock, noise rock, krautrock, psychedelic rock and new wave elements, with brass and keyboards extending the usual guitar-band setup.
Warp Records released Squid's debut album, Bright Green Field, on 7 May 2021. The record received widespread critical acclaim and entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 4. Its follow-up, O Monolith, arrived in 2023 and was met with similar acclaim. Squid released its third album, Cowards, in 2025.
