Rush
Rush was a progressive rock band that emerged in 1968 and retired in 2016. Known as a famous power trio, the band featured bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee; guitarist Alex Lifeson; and drummer, percussionist, and primary lyricist Neil Peart. This lineup was maintained for over 40 years until their retirement. Widely considered pivotal in popularizing progressive rock, the band's overall sound included a variety of musical genres over the years, notably blues rock, hard rock, and a phase with heavy synthesizer use. The band's lyrics, largely penned by Neil Peart, were critical to their success and covered diverse themes such as fantasy, sci-fi, history, literature, and philosophy. Generally, Rush avoided "love" songs, focusing instead on intellectual and philosophical themes, though a few love songs do exist. By 2015, the band achieved 24 gold, 14 platinum, and 3 multi-platinum albums, with worldwide album sales exceeding 40 million units. Throughout their career, Rush has arguably become synonymous with virtuosity in their respective instruments, as acknowledged by numerous respected musicians and renowned publications.
