Porcupine Tree
Porcupine Tree is an English rock band formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. Initially, the band started as a solo project for Wilson, who composed all of the band's music. By 1993, Wilson sought a collaborative band dynamic and brought on frequent collaborators Richard Barbieri on keyboards, Colin Edwin on bass, and Chris Maitland on drums as full-time members. With Wilson handling guitar and lead vocals, this lineup remained until 2001, when Gavin Harrison replaced Maitland on drums.
Porcupine Tree's early sound exhibited psychedelic rock influences akin to progressive rock band Pink Floyd. Upon signing with the Kscope record label in the late 1990s, the band shifted towards a more mainstream alternative rock style. By the early 2000s, after signing with a major record label, their sound evolved once more, embracing a progressive metal direction.
Following the release and tour for their tenth studio album, The Incident, the band became inactive as Wilson dedicated himself to solo work, while other members pursued their own separate projects.
