Paul Kalkbrenner
Paul Kalkbrenner is a German electronic musician and producer best known for “Sky and Sand,” a platinum-selling single that sold more than 200,000 copies and charted highly in Germany and Belgium. Born in Leipzig on 11 June 1977, he works primarily with techno and electronic music, building tracks from individual elements that he reassembles during performances.
That approach has made Kalkbrenner known as a live act rather than a conventional DJ. His sets present his own productions in a performance format, with the music broken down and reconstructed onstage.
Kalkbrenner also played Ickarus, the central character in Berlin Calling, the film written and directed by Hannes Stöhr. The movie screened for several years at Kino Central in Berlin, linking Kalkbrenner's music with one of the city's enduring electronic-culture films.
