Matoma

While studying to become a music teacher, Tom Stræte Lagergren from Åsnes, Norway, likely never anticipated that within a year of completing his bachelor's degree, he would become a world-renowned DJ, remixing tracks for artists such as Eminem, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez.

His entry onto the global scene occurred in 2015 with his remix of The Notorious B.I.G.’s song “Old Thing Back”, which reached number 24 on The Billboard Hot 100. A year later, Matoma was performing at the Coachella festival.

Originally, the DJ chose the name “SubHero” as his artist persona, but during a student party, he argued with his brother over this choice. A friend intervened, saying: "Tom, can’t you just chill? Hakuna Matata." When his brother tried to echo the famous phrase from the *Lion King* movie, he mistakenly said "Hakuna Matoma," which inspired Tom's current stage name.
