Kidnap
Kidnap is a French punk band from Blois, formed in 1977. The group began under the name Acier, then worked as Radiation before adopting the name Kidnap. Its early history is closely tied to a small core of members, with changes in vocalist and guitar roles shaping the band’s successive lineups across the late 1970s and 1980s.
In its first incarnation as Acier in 1977, the band featured Hugues on vocals, Chicol on guitar, Mireille on bass, and Aldo on drums. The following period, 1978–1979, saw the group operating as Radiation with Hugues remaining on vocals alongside Chicol (guitar), Fabrice (bass), and Aldo (drums). A further shift occurred in 1979–1980, still under the Radiation name, when Frédo took over vocal duties, continuing with Chicol, Fabrice, and Aldo.
The band adopted the name Kidnap for the 1981–1983 period, maintaining the lineup of Frédo (vocals), Chicol (guitar), Fabrice (bass), and Aldo (drums). From 1984 to 1988, Kidnap expanded to include a second guitarist, Fonfon, alongside Frédo, Chicol, Fabrice, and Aldo. In 1989, the group’s final year before its initial breakup, Fonfon moved into the role of vocalist and guitarist, with Chicol on guitar, Fabrice on bass, and Aldo on drums.
Kidnap broke up in 1989. Since 2002, the band has reunited intermittently to play occasional concerts. In this later period, the lineup is described as Frédo on vocals, Chicol and Fonfon on guitars, Fabrice on bass, and Aldo on drums.
