HNNY
HNNY (pronounced “honey”) is the stage name of Swedish producer and DJ Johan Cederberg, known for releases that move between house and ambient music. He first became associated with the Swedish label Local Talk, where he put out a run of singles and EPs that helped define his early recorded work.
Cederberg’s productions are closely identified with sampling, particularly the use of vocal fragments from American R&B records. Those vocal cuts often sit inside warm, understated club tracks, but they also appear in more atmospheric material, reflecting a practice of drawing from a wide range of sources rather than relying on conventional song structures. Alongside R&B vocals, his music has been described as using other “esoteric” samples, a catch-all for the kinds of unexpected textures and references that recur across his releases.
After releasing through Local Talk, HNNY shifted to issuing music on his own imprint, Puss. The move to self-release placed his output under a label identity tied directly to the project, and it has remained the primary home for his later material. Under the HNNY name, Cederberg has continued to work within electronic genres associated with Sweden’s contemporary scene, including deep house and related styles, while keeping sampling and mood-setting sound design at the center of his approach.
