Blithe Field is what Spencer Radcliffe called himself before he started using his own name, and it's still where the instrumental work goes. He began it in 2008 with a self-released album, 'Old Songs/New Songs', and kept it running through 'Beautiful Wave '74' and 'Two Hearted' on Messy Life and 'Warm Blood' on Poulpe Mort.

The music comes out of field recordings and abstract manipulation rather than written parts, closer to ambient than to songs: buzzing that resolves into blips, chimes and muted static. 'Face Always Toward the Sun' arrived on Orchid Tapes in 2016 and is the most widely heard of them. He's kept coming back to the name since, most recently in 2023.
