Seether

Seether broke through in the United States in 2002 with “Fine Again,” a number one single on the Active Rock chart, beginning a run of radio success that has made the Pretoria-founded band a durable name in modern rock. Formed in Gauteng, South Africa, in 1999, the group first performed as Saron Gas before adopting the name Seether in 2002 to avoid confusion with sarin gas, the deadly chemical.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Shaun Morgan is Seether’s only remaining original member. Bassist Dale Stewart joined the band a year after its formation, and drummer John Humphrey arrived for its second album. Morgan has recorded most of the guitar parts on Seether’s records, though several guitarists have worked with the group on tour or in the studio, including Clint Lowery and Troy McLawhorn. Since 2018, Corey Lowery has served as the band’s second guitarist.

The band’s 2004 single “Broken” reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, extending the momentum of “Fine Again” beyond rock radio. Seether subsequently scored a series of number one songs on Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including “Remedy,” “Fake It,” “Country Song,” “Tonight,” “Words as Weapons,” “Let You Down,” “Dangerous,” “Bruised and Bloodied,” and “Wasteland.”

Across nine studio albums, Seether has maintained a catalog rooted in rock, post-grunge, alternative metal, and hard rock. Their most recent studio album, The Surface Seems So Far, was released in 2024.
