Pharoah Sanders, originally named Farrell Sanders and born on October 13, 1940, is an American jazz saxophonist. He was a former member of John Coltrane’s bands during the mid-1960s. Sanders is renowned for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his utilization of “sheets of sound”. He has released more than 30 albums as a leader and has worked extensively with Leon Thomas, Alice Coltrane, and Rinai Maurice, among others.
