Nick Drake
Nick Drake (1948-1974) was an English singer-songwriter, guitarist, and musician. During his lifetime, he achieved little commercial success, but in recent years has gained much greater critical and popular recognition. He is celebrated for his husky vocal style and creativity in using cluster-chords and non-standard tuning. Drake’s final album, Pink Moon (1972), released two years before his death, includes many of his most beloved songs. After its release, he became reclusive, struggled with depression, and stopped performing. He died from a prescription-drug overdose at the age of 26. It is uncertain whether the overdose was intentional or accidental. Lines from his song “From The Morning” are engraved on his gravestone: ‘And now we rise, / and we are everywhere.’
