Nathan Fake
Nathan Fake, born on March 3, 1983, in King's Lynn, Norfolk, is a British electronic musician and producer currently based in Norwich. Since 2016, he has been signed to Ninja Tune and releases music via the Cambria Instruments label, with his latest album, Crystal Vision, out in April 2023.
Raised in Norfolk, Fake began creating music during high school, drawing inspiration from IDM acts like Aphex Twin and Orbital and learning about their music and equipment through magazines. In 2003, he met James Holden, who signed him to the Border Community label, releasing the 193039 12" EP. Additional records soon appeared on other labels such as Satoshi Tomiie's Saw Recordings, Traum Schallplatten in Germany, and France's Electrochoc Records. His debut full-length album, Drowning In A Sea Of Love, was released on Border Community in March 2006 and received positive reviews from publications like Pitchfork, The Guardian, and Mixmag. In 2014, Nathan Fake co-founded Cambria Instruments with Wesley Matsell, another Border Community alumni. As a remix producer, he has worked with notable musicians and labels, including Radiohead, Jon Hopkins, Chris Clark, Domino Recording Co. Ltd., Warp Records, and Kompakt.
In September 2016, Ninja Tune, a prominent UK electronic label, signed Nathan Fake and released his 9442223 12" EP later that year. His fourth studio album, Providence, came out in spring 2017, with guest musicians Prurient (Hospital Productions founder) and Raphaelle Standell-Preston (of Braids), earning positive reviews in The Observer and Wire Magazine, along with a Bleep's "Album of the Week" mention. Ninja Tune also released a two-part Providence Reworks EP that year with remixes from artists like Overmono, Huerco S., Olga Wojciechowska, and Konx-Om-Pax.
