Miguel Migs

Miguel Migs, whose real name is Michael Steward and also known by the alias Petalpusher, is a well-known deep house DJ and producer based in San Francisco, California. He is the founder of Salted Music, an independent electronic dance label. He draws inspiration from classic rock, blues, funk, soul, and reggae in his music. As a teenager, Miguel wrote songs, composed melodies, and played various instruments including guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboard in reggae bands. He began his career in the 90s underground deep house scene, experimenting with electronic dance music.

In 2002, Miguel released his debut album, *Colorful You*, under the Astralwerks imprint. He has remixed tracks for prominent artists like Macy Gray, Lionel Richie, and Britney Spears.

In 2004, he established his record label Salted Music, a platform for expressing his creativity through instrumentation and vocalization. He describes the label's purpose by saying:

“music I like to play as a DJ, those B-side dubs, that underground creative feel. I never set out for it to be a large record label, it’s something we do pretty much on a part-time basis for fun as a side project. but it’s also important to me to be able to keep pushing new sounds and new artists.”

In 2007, Miguel released his second album, *Those Things*, collaborating with artists like Sadat X and Junior Reed. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Dance Album in the Independent Music Awards. His single "So Far" was ranked in the Top 5 on the Billboard Dance chart and also reached #5 on the iTunes dance chart. The album featured contributions from disco star Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, reggae icons Half-Pint and Freddie McGregor, and frequent collaborators Aya and Lisa Shaw. He has also released several solo albums: *Outside the Skyline* (2011) and *Dim Division* (2014).

Miguel is at the forefront of the soulful side of electronic music. Whether working on his original productions or remixes, he creates an organic-soulful sound by merging the electronic music world with live instrumentation.

He is unaffected by the acclaim and success he has garnered over the years and is proud of the honor and admiration from those who appreciate his high production values, allowing his music to speak for itself.
