Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin disbanded after drummer John Bonham’s death in 1980, ending the four-piece’s original run with guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and Bonham. The group’s recordings drew on hard rock, blues, folk and rock and roll, with Page’s guitar riffs, Plant’s high-register vocals, Jones’s bass and keyboard arrangements, and Bonham’s forceful drumming at the center of its sound.
“Stairway to Heaven” and “Kashmir” became two of the band’s best-known recordings. Led Zeppelin later reunited in limited settings: the surviving members performed at Live Aid in 1985 and Atlantic Records’ 40th-anniversary event in 1989. In 2007, Page, Plant and Jones played a concert honoring Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun with Jason Bonham on drums; the performance was released as Celebration Day in 2012.
