Kieran Miles David Hebden, known as Four Tet, emerged from the post-rock band Fridge before building a solo career that has taken in electronic music, ambient passages, house rhythms and detailed sample-based production. Born in September 1977 and from Putney, United Kingdom, he first gained wider recognition through albums including Rounds (2003), Everything Ecstatic (2005) and There Is Love in You (2010), all of which charted and drew critical acclaim.

Across twelve studio albums released as Four Tet, Hebden has also worked under names including Percussions, KH, 4T and 4TLR. His output has included tracks later incorporated into Four Tet releases as well as standalone online pieces. The project’s music moves between finely textured electronic composition and club-oriented forms, with work associated with IDM, microhouse, house and tech house.

Hebden’s collaborations extend beyond his solo catalogue. He made several improvisational recordings with jazz drummer Steve Reid, and has worked with Burial and Thom Yorke. In 2021, he arranged Madlib’s album Sound Ancestors. His remix work includes tracks by Aphex Twin, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals, Radiohead, Ellie Goulding and Madvillain, with several remixes collected on the 2006 compilation Remixes.

As a DJ, Hebden has presented mixes and performed sets with artists including Skrillex and Fred Again. His work as Four Tet connects the experimental approach of his early band background with a long-running practice of remixing, collaboration, improvisation and dancefloor-focused performance.
