Boards of Canada
Boards of Canada take their name from Canada’s National Film Board, whose documentary films informed the Scottish duo’s music and visual sensibility. The group consists of twin brothers Michael and Marcus Eoin Sandison, who spent part of their childhood in western Canada before returning to Scotland. Some of their early demos date to 1986.
After issuing the EPs Twoism and Hi Scores, Boards of Canada signed with Warp Records and released their debut album, Music Has the Right to Children, in 1998. They followed it with the EP In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country, then the albums Geogaddi and The Campfire Headphase, alongside the Trans Canada Highway EP. Their fourth album, Tomorrow’s Harvest, arrived in 2013 after a cryptic Record Store Day campaign.
