Ben Lukas Boysen
Ben Lukas Boysen is a German electronic music composer based in Berlin who has released work under his own name as well as the stage name Hecq. His output is rooted in electronic composition but draws on a wider palette, bringing together ambient textures, contemporary classical approaches, and more abstract strains of IDM. He is also credited under a range of alternate names, including B. Boysen, Ben Boysen, Ben Lucas Boysen, Benny Boysen, Boysen, Lucas Boysen, Lukas Boysen, Monstré Mekunnik, and qDub.
Boysen’s music is often described in terms of its emotional directness and its refusal to stay within a single category. Rather than separating electronic sound design from compositional writing, his work blends them, moving between atmospheric passages and more structured, classically informed ideas. This hybrid approach places him in a space where ambient and compositional music overlap, while still retaining the detail and experimentation associated with abstract IDM.
Working from Berlin, Boysen has issued recordings through labels associated with modern classical and experimental electronic music, including Erased Tapes and Neue Meister. Across his various aliases, he has maintained a focus on crafted, genre-crossing composition, using electronic production as both an instrument and a framework for broader musical forms.
