Smallville
Smallville was a shop first. Julius Steinhoff, Stella Plazonja and Peter Kersten, who records as Lawrence, opened it in Hamburg in May 2005, and the label followed about a year later, drawing on the same circle of deep house producers already coming through the door.
Stefan Marx has drawn every sleeve, and the line drawings identify the label about as reliably as the music does. It didn't end with the shop: that closed in November 2021 after sixteen years and two addresses, and Steinhoff kept the label going with Marx.
