Hyperdub grew out of the UK's early dubstep scene, but its catalogue has never been confined to one sound. Founded in London in 2004 by Steve Goodman, better known as Kode9, the British label began alongside the Hyperdub webzine and developed as a home for electronic music with a strong sense of rhythm, bass pressure and experimentation.

The label's early identity is closely tied to dubstep, including work by Burial, Ikonika and Zomby, while its releases have also opened onto club music, grime-adjacent styles, footwork, R&B and more abstract electronic forms. Hyperdub's roster has included Cooly G, DVA, Fatima Al Qadiri, Jessy Lanza, Klein, Laurel Halo, Dean Blunt and the late Chicago footwork producer DJ Rashad. More recent artists associated with the label include Loraine James, aya, DJ Haram, foodman, Heavee, Nueen and Iceboy Violet.

Run by Kode9, Hyperdub remains rooted in London while drawing artists and musical ideas from far beyond the city. RBMA described it as “one of the UK's most celebrated underground labels,” a reputation built on releases that connect dubstep's foundations to adventurous electronic and club music.
