The Strokes
The Strokes emerged in 2001 with Is This It, a debut that helped position the New York band as a prominent guitar-rock group of the period. The lineup features Julian Casablancas on vocals, Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. on guitars, Nikolai Fraiture on bass, and Fabrizio Moretti on drums.
Casablancas wrote the lyrics and music for the band’s first two albums, Is This It and 2003’s Room on Fire, and was closely involved in their mixing. Later records shifted the group’s approach: First Impressions of Earth, Angles, and Comedown Machine each moved away from the tight template of the early releases. In 2020, The Strokes released The New Abnormal, produced by Rick Rubin. It became the band’s first album to win a Grammy Award.
