Martyn
Martyn first came to wider attention through a sound that brought techno and jungle into contact with dubstep. Born Martijn Deijkers in Geldrop, Eindhoven, he began DJing drum and bass in 1996. Hearing Kode9’s “Sine of the Dub” led him to bring stronger dubstep influences into his sets and productions, while his earliest 12-inch singles, released in 2005, combined techno and jungle elements.
Working under the name Martyn, Deijkers developed across dubstep, drum and bass, techno and related UK bass styles. His debut album, Great Lengths, arrived in 2009. The following year, he mixed Fabric 50, the 50th entry in Fabric’s long-running DJ mix series. His second studio album, Ghost People, was released in 2011 by the American label Brainfeeder.
Deijkers is the son of former Dutch footballer Gerrie Deijkers. Although he is from Eindhoven, he is based in Washington, D.C., in the United States. He has also used variations of his surname, including Martijn Deykers, alongside aliases such as Gabe & Jude, M., and MARTYN3024.
