El Train

Selected in 2015 by Four Tet and fellow judges as the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival’s Bassxchange representative, Brighton-born producer Luke Guy Nyeke, known as El Train, travelled to South Africa to DJ in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

El Train blends hip-hop, R&B and electronic production, with a pronounced nod to West Coast beat music. His releases have appeared through labels including Laruche Records, Darker Than Wax and Jakarta Records, while his own Shimmy Records issued Over & Over, a collaborative EP with singer Miki Rose. He has also remixed tracks by Ivy Lab, J-Felix and Sinéad Harnett.

His work with Rubee Rayne was selected as BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Introducing Track of the Week and featured in Mercedes-Benz’s mixtape series. As a DJ, El Train has played Glastonbury and Wildlife, and supported artists including Snakehips, Bondax, MssingNo and Mr Carmack across Europe and South Africa.
