Deekline
Deekline is the British producer and DJ behind the 1999 hit “I Don’t Smoke,” a bass-heavy, breakbeat-infused 2-step record that reached No. 11 on the UK charts. Also known as DJ Dee Kline, he is credited as the innovator of breakstep, a style that brought together the rhythmic snap of 2-step with heavier low end and breakbeat pressure.
Working across breakbeat, breakstep, drum and bass and garage, Deekline has built a catalogue rooted in UK bass music. His collaborations include work with fellow British electronic producers Ed Solo and Wizard, extending his output across breaks, ragga-informed rhythms and drum and bass.
He also owns Rat Records, a label that has released music by DJ Fresh, Jack Beats, Stanton Warriors, Wiley, Skinny Man, Rennie Pilgrem, House Breakers and Freq Nasty. In 2011, Deekline opened Bass Boutique, an online clothing store.
