Deekline
Deekline is a British producer and DJ associated with breakbeat, breakstep, drum and bass, and UK garage. He is credited as the innovator of breakstep, a bass-heavy style that combines breakbeats with 2-step rhythms. The sound was first identified through his 1999 single “I Don’t Smoke,” which reached No. 11 on the UK charts and helped define the early profile of the genre.
Based in London, Deekline has worked under several names, including DJ Deekline, Nicholas Annand, Nick Annand, DJ Dee Kline, BIZZ-R, and Defkline. Alongside his own productions and DJ work, he has been active as a label owner. He runs Rat Records, a platform that has released music by artists including DJ Fresh, Jack Beats, Stanton Warriors, Wiley, Skinny Man, Rennie Pilgrem, House Breakers, and Freq Nasty, reflecting his connections across UK electronic music and adjacent scenes.
Deekline’s collaborative work includes projects with British electronic producers Ed Solo and Wizard. Outside of recording and performance, he expanded into merchandise and retail with the launch of his online clothing store, Bass Boutique, in 2011.
