Architects
Architects are an English metalcore band from Brighton, East Sussex, formed in 2004 by twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle. Emerging from the UK metalcore scene, the group’s music has been associated with metalcore and progressive and melodic variants of the style, and has also been linked to mathcore. Over time, Architects became known for a tightly constructed, rhythm-driven approach that sits between the technical intensity of math-influenced hardcore and the heavier, modern strain of metalcore.
The band’s current lineup consists of Dan Searle on drums, Sam Carter on vocals, Alex Dean on bass, and Adam Christianson on guitar. Architects have been signed to Epitaph Records since 2013, a period that marked a stable label home for the band as they continued to develop their sound within contemporary metalcore. Their work is often discussed in connection with progressive metalcore, reflecting an emphasis on complex structures and dynamic shifts alongside more melodic elements.
Founding guitarist Tom Searle died in August 2016 after cancer. His death was a major turning point in the band’s history, given his role as a founding member and key creative figure. Following that loss, the group continued with Dan Searle remaining as a central member, alongside Carter, Dean, and Christianson, maintaining Architects as an active band while carrying forward the project that began in Brighton in the mid-2000s.
