AJ Tracey
AJ Tracey broke through to a wider audience with “Butterflies,” his 2018 collaboration with Not3s, before taking “Ladbroke Grove” to number three on the UK Singles Chart the following year. The latter single, named for the west London area he calls home, was certified platinum by the BPI and led his self-titled debut album, which reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.
Born Ché Wolton Grant on 4 March 1994, AJ Tracey is a British rapper and record producer from Ladbroke Grove, London. Working across grime, rap, drill, dancehall and UK garage-informed sounds, he rose to prominence in 2016, when The Guardian included him among its best new acts to catch at festivals that year.
Before his debut album, Tracey built his profile through a run of EPs. His fifth, Secure the Bag!, arrived in 2017 and became his first release to enter the UK Albums Chart, reaching number 13. The project included guest appearances from Jme, Denzel Curry, 67 and Craig David.
Tracey’s collaborative catalogue spans British rap and grime as well as pop and international guests. He has released music with Aitch, Dave, D-Block Europe, Digga D, Giggs, Mabel, Mahalia, MoStack, Skepta and Nelly Furtado, alongside his cousin Big Zuu. His records have moved between direct grime-rooted MCing, melodic rap and club-facing production without leaving behind the London references central to songs such as “Ladbroke Grove.”
