Aera

Aera is the recording name of Berlin-based DJ and electronic music producer Ralf Schmidt. Working under both Aera and his own name, Schmidt has been associated with German house and related strands of club music, and is also known for founding the label Applied Magic.

As a producer, Aera’s output has appeared through a range of imprints tied to contemporary European dance music, including Innervisions as well as labels such as Exit Strategy, TAU, Aeon, and his own Applied Magic. His discography under the Aera name includes multiple releases across these outlets, reflecting an active presence as a studio artist alongside his work as a DJ.

Schmidt’s Berlin base places him within one of Europe’s central hubs for electronic music, and his activities span both artist and label roles. In addition to releasing his own material, his founding of Applied Magic positions him as an organizer and curator within the scene, extending his work beyond performance and production into label direction.
