Cecile Believe
Caila Thompson-Hannant, known by her stage name Cecile Believe (formerly Mozart’s Sister), is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter.
Between 2005 and 2011, she was part of various Canadian indie-rock bands like Shapes and Sizes, Miracle Fortress, and Think About Life. In 2011, she left Miracle Fortress to create her solo venture, Mozart’s Sister.
Her debut album, Being, was launched in 2014 via Sufjan Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty Records and received mixed-to-positive feedback.
After releasing her debut album, Thompson-Hannant took a break to tour and write, resulting in her second album, Field of Love, in 2017, which received better reviews. That year, she moved to Los Angeles.
In 2018, she contributed writing and vocals to her friend SOPHIE’s debut album, Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, which led to a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
Although she changed her social media to “Cecile Believe” in 2018, her first release with this name was “Last Thing He Said to Me in Person” in 2020. Cecile continued to release experimental art pop projects like Plucking a Cherry From the Void (2020) and Tender the Spark (2024).
In addition to these collaborations, Thompson-Hannant has added her vocals and production to various electronic projects, including tracks for TOPS and Kane West. She has also worked with other electronic artists such as Shygirl, Caroline Polachek, Dorian Electra, and A. G. Cook.
