Battles
Battles is an American experimental rock group formed in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams. The band is known for instrumental music that draws on experimental rock and math rock, and has also been associated with instrumental math rock, noise pop, and post-rock.
The group’s current line-up is a duo: guitarist and keyboardist Ian Williams and drummer John Stanier. Battles previously operated with a larger membership that included composer and vocalist Tyondai Braxton and guitarist and bassist Dave Konopka, both of whom are listed among the band’s former members. Across its history, the project has shifted between these configurations while remaining centered on Williams’ guitar and keyboard work and Stanier’s drumming.
Battles has released four studio albums. Their most recent studio album, Juice B Crypts, was released in 2019.
