Universal Music Ltda. is Universal Music Group’s Brazilian subsidiary, with roots reaching back to Sinter, a company active from 1945 to 1955. Sinter became Companhia Brasileira de Discos in 1955 and was acquired by Philips three years later. Subsequent names included Companhia Brasileira de Discos Phonogram, Polygram Discos Ltda. and Polygram do Brasil Ltda.
Following Universal Music Group’s purchase of PolyGram in late 1998, the Brazilian operation merged with Universal Music in 1999. Its catalogue includes releases by Brazilian artists such as Leo Santana, Lauana Prado, Eli Soares, Mumuzinho, Gustavo Mioto, Matheus & Kauan, Theus Costa and DJ Luan Gomes.
