Tru Thoughts
Tru Thoughts grew out of Brighton’s phonic:hoop club nights, founded in 1999 by Robert Luis and Paul Jonas. The independent label began under Luis’s stairs and built its catalogue around the overlap between jazz, breaks, hip-hop, soul, funk and electronic music.
From its Brighton base, Tru Thoughts has released music by artists including Alice Russell, Steven Bamidele, Ebi Soda, WheelUP and Kuna Maze. Its output also reaches into tropical music and grime, while keeping a focus on rhythm-led, soulful records and beat-driven experimentation.
