Strut
Founded by Quinton Scott in 1999, Strut is a British independent label devoted to dance music history and its ongoing dialogue with jazz and Afrobeat. Its early releases excavated hard funk, underground disco, original breaks, Nigerian Afrobeat, old-school hip hop and library music, placing dancefloor records in the context of the artists, clubs and scenes that produced them.
Strut reactivated in 2008 and became part of the !K7 label group. Its catalogue has connected archival work with releases by artists including Patrice Rushen, Mulatu Astatke and the Sun Ra Arkestra, while also working with contemporary names such as Nubiyan Twist, Momoko Gill and Flock.
