Soma Records
Soma Records was an American independent label based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and active in the early 1990s. Its available web address, uglyduckling.us, links the label to the world of Ugly Duckling, the American hip-hop group formed around 1993 by Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein and Andy Cooper.
Ugly Duckling chose its name because its members felt like outcasts within mid-1990s hip-hop. The group was later described in How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC as one of the more prominent underground hip-hop groups, placing Soma Records in an independent rap context rather than a mainstream-label tradition.
