Signature Records was a jazz label founded in 1939 by Bob Thiele, who established the company when he was 17 years old. The label is primarily associated with American jazz recording in the mid-20th century, with an artist roster that reflected both established bandleaders and prominent soloists.

From its earliest period, Signature Records documented major figures in swing and mainstream jazz. The label’s roster included saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, pianist Earl Hines, pianist Erroll Garner, and saxophonist Lester Young. These names place Signature within the orbit of jazz’s best-known instrumental voices of the era, and indicate a focus on artist-led sessions rather than a single house style.
