Sacred Bones Records

Sacred Bones Records is a Brooklyn, New York independent label founded in 2007 by Caleb Braaten. Its catalogue brings together dark pop, post-punk, experimental music, soundtrack work and idiosyncratic singer-songwriters, with releases that often sit comfortably between cult cinema, underground rock and electronic music.

The label has worked with artists including Zola Jesus, David Lynch, John Carpenter, Spellling, Blanck Mass, Crystal Stilts, Marissa Nadler, The Men, Caleb Landry Jones, Molchat Doma, DJ Muggs and The Soft Moon. John Carpenter's recordings, including work made with Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter, connect Sacred Bones to the director and composer's distinct synth-driven score tradition, while artists such as Molchat Doma, Sextile and Uniform reflect its ties to post-punk, industrial and noisier club-rooted sounds. SPELLLING and Caleb Landry Jones represent another side of the roster, rooted in singular songwriting and ambitious studio work.

Sacred Bones has also paired its music releases with visual and design work. Its team has included general manager Taylor Brode, designer David Correll, screen-printer Keegan Cooke and filmmaker Jacqueline Castel. In 2011, The Wire called Sacred Bones “one of the best American labels in recent years,” while Billboard included it among America’s 50 best independent labels.

In 2022, Sacred Bones began reissuing records by Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley on 8-track, extending the label's catalogue into archival country and folk material alongside its contemporary releases.
