RAM Records

RAM Records grew from Andy C and Ant Miles’ 1992 partnership into one of drum and bass’s enduring independent labels. Its releases have centred on the genre’s signature energy and club focus, while the label has also given artists a route to wider UK chart visibility. Andy C, Chase & Status, René LaVice, Sub Focus and Wilkinson have all placed RAM singles on the UK Singles Chart.

Moving Fusion’s “Turbulence” marked an important early-2000s moment for the label. The track was voted the number one drum and bass record at the Mercury Music Prize in 2000, helping move RAM into a larger profile within the scene. Alongside its records, RAM developed a major club-night presence in London. Its best-known residency ran for 11 years at The End, ending when the club closed in December 2008. The night moved to Matter in February 2009, where attendance rose from 1,000 to more than 3,000 within two months, before Matter closed in June 2010. RAM subsequently found a home at Fabric in Farringdon.

The label expanded its output with the sister imprint Frequency in 2002, then launched PROGRAM in 2012. PROGRAM was created for different strains of drum and bass from RAM’s core sound, beginning with Frankee’s “Firethorn / Pandorum.” RAM Records and its business are run by Andy C with Scott Bourne, also known as Red One.
